Lightning is hotter than the Sun's surface
Lightning can heat the air it passes through to 50,000 degrees Fahrenheit, five times hotter than the surface of the Sun.
Why it is true
Air is a poor conductor of electricity, so it gets extremely hot when lightning passes through. When a bolt hits a tree, the heat vaporizes the water in its path.
