Hellbenders breathe through their skin
A hellbender absorbs up to 95 percent of its oxygen through loose folds of skin along its sides.
Why it is true
Its lungs barely work, so the wrinkled skin does the breathing. The eastern hellbender is the largest salamander in the Americas and lives in clean, fast rivers.
